Great to be participating in UWE’s Agency Project and a hearty hello to our new intern!  

We are so pleased to welcome Isla King to the team! Isla will be interning with us for 5 weeks as part of the University of the West of England’s  ‘Agency Project’. Isla is in her final year, studying Architecture & Planning and she will be supporting our planning consultants on development appraisals and applications for a number of projects, including pub conversions, a commercial enterprise and a new housing scheme. 

The Agency Project provides an opportunity for students to directly experience working in or with a particular organisation involved in the planning sector, not only providing them with hands on experience, but enabling them to learn about current practice.  We are delighted to be participating in the scheme this year.

The Architecture and Planning degree at UWE is unique, in that it is accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), and the Architects Registration Board (ARB), and is understandably a very popular programme and in high demand. We can certainly vouch for the calibre of the course as our own Associate Planner Bex, is a graduate of it! 

Isla has a real interest in Urban Design, Master Planning and producing site context appraisals. She is currently undertaking research into self-build (something she hopes to accomplish herself one day!), and also development options for pubs, including conversion, since the impact of COVID-19 and the cost of living crisis.

Having started her course in Architecture and Planning five years ago, she has developed a keen interest in the planning sector and the positive changes it can bring to local communities. She has always been fond of design and the chance to be creative, but has mostly been influenced by her desire to add to our ever-improving and increasingly sustainable built environment, in the face of climate change and social challenges.

At UWE, Isla has worked on a range of different modules including: Architectural and Planning Theories; Planning Legislation; Building and Masterplan Designs; Site Analysis Studies; and Computer Design Representation. 

It is a real pleasure to have Isla on our team and her excellent design analysis and research skills are already adding value to a number of our projects.
