We are delighted to have successfully secured planning permission at appeal for an exciting new equine health and rehabilitation centre in the Essex countryside. The development will deliver six close observation stables, two foaling boxes, a surfaced turnout pen, a hardstanding turn out area, and a 40m x 30m assessment and rehabilitation menage. The site will also be used for grazing, and a temporary rural worker’s dwelling has been approved to ensure 24-hour care for rehabilitating horses.
This was a challenging application, refused by the local authority and requiring a detailed and carefully presented case at appeal. Our team worked closely with the client to address the Council’s concerns, gathering robust evidence and presenting persuasive arguments to the Inspector.
The appeal decision represents a significant success for our client, allowing them to move forward with their vision of creating a specialist equine health and rehabilitation centre. The Inspector recognised the scheme would not only provide rural economic benefits but also support the welfare of horses through carefully designed, high-quality facilities.
This outcome highlights the value of expert planning advice and a proactive strategy in overcoming local authority objections. By presenting clear evidence, addressing technical matters head-on, and demonstrating sensitivity to the site’s landscape setting, we were able to secure approval for a development that had previously been refused.
We are proud to have supported our client throughout this process and to have achieved a result that will bring lasting benefits to the equestrian sector and the wider rural community.
The response from our client says it all:
“Thank you so much for everything – you have been amazing!!!! I was so sure this wouldn’t be the outcome… so this is 100% down to you!!! A million thank yous! “
