Plainview Planning have been providing full planning consultancy services, supporting the University of Gloucestershire and U-Living on an exciting scheme to regenerate Pittville Campus, turning a dilapidated and underused site into an attractive 791 bed Student Village.
At a Planning Committee meeting held in January of this year, it was decided to defer the decision. In the intervening six months the University of Gloucestershire, U-Living and Feilden Clegg Bradley Architects, supported by Plainview Planning, have been working hard to address issues raised by the planning committee and the public, engaging with residents, stakeholders and Planning Officers.
We are delighted that Cheltenham Borough Council Planning Officers have recommended the application for approval and that they acknowledge that the proposed development adheres to the objectives of the Local Plan.
As Stephen Marston, Vice- Chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire, states in the Gloucestershire Echo today:
“The development of the student village at Pittville is critical to the future success and viability of the University and will ensure we can to make a growing contribution to the well-being and prosperity of Cheltenham… Throughout this process, the University has sought to demonstrate its commitment to working with Pittville residents and we will continue to work with the local community as the scheme progresses.“
This development represents an exciting opportunity to provide a safe and secure learning and living environment for students, maintain the economic benefits of the University of Gloucestershire’s strong links with Cheltenham and regenerate an underused and deteriorating site for the benefit of all.
We look forward to the Planning Committee next Thursday and hope that committee members will see the great benefits of the proposed development, as identified by the Planning Officer’s recommendation for approval.
