Planning for natural burial sites

Plainview Planning recently submitted a representation to the Cotswold District Local Plan: Preferred Development Strategy to promote an existing agricultural site as a future natural burial ground.

The change of use of a greenfield site to a natural burial ground is generally supported by planning policy, although there are sometimes localised planning hurdles that need to be overcome. Natural burial represents a very sustainable method of laying to rest the deceased, as it seeks to provide informal landscapes that are carefully managed through the introduction of native trees, shrubs and wildflowers. They also incorporate strong ecological principles that encourage wildlife to thrive.
